$26.07 million for Victorian Cancer Care Service
The Federal Government has announced a $26.07 million contribution towards the construction of a Cancer Care Service that will care for the residents of Geelong and the surrounding Ballerine Penninsula.
The Federal Government selected the project for funding after a successful application from Barwon Health in the Health and Hospitals Fund’s Regional Priority Round. The Federal Government will now be entering a round of discussions with Barwon Health and the Victorian State Government about their contributions towards the project.
Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon said the hub of the new cancer service in Geelong would include a new linear accelerator for radiation therapy, a new 32-bed oncology ward, a 24-bed palliative care ward, and 20 new accommodation units.
“There will also be supported accommodation units for day oncology patients in Warrnambool, additional consulting suites for use by cancer specialists in Hamilton; and a day unit for chemotherapy in Portland as part of this project,” Ms Roxon said.
