AI advice tested
Experts have tested AI against real medical advice.
Two recent studies conducted by international researchers suggest that ChatGPT, an AI language model, has the potential to assist overwhelmed doctors by providing better, quicker, and easier-to-understand responses to medical queries.
In one study, ChatGPT was found to deliver better-quality information and bedside manner in response to questions submitted to Reddit's r/AskDocs when compared to verified doctors in 78.6 per cent of cases.
In another study, ChatGPT was found to provide quick and helpful instructions that could be customised to different literacy levels, although the hospital instructions were easier to understand and put into action.
The researchers suggest that ChatGPT could provide doctors with an effective tool for delivering information in the future.
The studies were published in medical journals and are accessible here and here.
