Chair appointed to Victorian Children's Council
The Victorian State Government has announced the appointment of an internationally renowned researcher and academic to chair the Victorian Children’s Council.
Professor Frank Oberklaid currently serves as the founding Director at the Centre for Community Child Health at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne and is a Professor within the University of Melbourne's Department of Paediatrics.
Professor Oberklaid will chair the 13-member council, which will advise the Premier and senior cabinet members on issues surrounding children’s health and wellbeing.
Professor Oberklaid was a founding member of the Victorian Children's Council, and has served as Deputy Chair since the Council's establishment in 2005.
Current members of the Victorian Children's Council include experts in areas such as child health, youth services, child development, disability services, early childhood education and care, child welfare and family services. Bernie Geary, the Child Safety Commissioner, is an ex-officio member of the Council.
