Faux-nurse to face fraud charge
A man has been charged with fraud after allegedly posing as a nurse for six weeks in a Cape York hospital.
The 30-year-old Darwin man was charged after Queensland detectives made contact with him in the Northern Territory.
He accused of using an employee registration number belonging to someone else to gain work at the Aurukun Primary Health Centre on Cape York during February and March.
The investigation was launched after the matter was referred to the Queensland Police Service, the Crime and Misconduct Commission and the Health Ombudsman.
A departmental taskforce is seeking to find out how the man was able to slip through screening processes.
Queensland Health Minister Cameron Dick says vetting methods at Queensland hospitals remain “robust”, and the employee responsible for the oversight of the man in question had been stood down.
