A rural Queensland Mayor has announced residents will vote on whether their water should be fluoridated.

Mount Isa Mayor Tony Grady say the issue is so contentious in his region, he’s letting all registered voters weigh in. The Council has unanimously supported the referendum, though at this stage the cost is unclear, they have deemed the issue divisive enough to go to the polls.

While many reports have hailed the benefits of fluoridated water supplies; much of the opposition comes from residents following heavily disputed scientific reports on dangers and general opposition to any medication being introduced into water supplies.
