Monash University has announced it will be showcasing its research on knowledge translation, chronic disease management and e-health.

Making Change Happen: Monash University Department of General Practice Research Showcase will feature presentations on the department’s current research. Projects canvas areas as diverse as assisting early diagnosis of lung cancer to the legal issues associated with plans to store patient records online.

Professor Danielle Mazza, Head of General Practice, said the showcase would provide interest across a wide range, including clinicians, researchers and interested members of the public.

“Our research focuses on improving health and that’s relevant to everyone."

“We chose the theme Making Change Happen because one of our strengths is knowledge translation – undertaking the research that can make a difference and getting this evidence out into the clinical and community setting.

"Reducing the gap between what we know based on quality research, and what we do in practice benefits all members of the community,” said Professor Mazza.

“GPs are the medical practitioners with the most contact with the public. They have to be across a huge range of health issues. Our research is actively assisting them in providing the best possible care, particularly in the area of preventative care where there is huge potential for improvement.”

The showcase will also feature keynote addresses on knowledge translation from eminent international researchers Associate Professor Dawn Stacey from the University of Ottawa, Associate Professor Lyndal Trevena from the University of Sydney and Dr Ian Graham from the Canadian Institute of Health Sciences Research.

Making Change Happen: Monash University Department of General Practice Research Showcase will be held from 9am to 4pm, Thursday 27 October, 2011 at the Village Roadshow Theatrette, State Library of Victoria.
