Pill could make quitting harder
A new study suggests being on the pill could make nicotine withdrawals worse.
Researchers looked at data from two earlier studies and found that women who use hormonal contraception, such as the pill, also had worse withdrawal symptoms while trying to quit smoking compared to other women or men.
Results showed that women on hormonal contraception reported significantly greater total withdrawal scores before, during and after the quit date than women not on hormonal contraceptives or males.
Despite this, data suggests hormonal contraceptive users were still likely to achieve short-term success in their efforts to quit.
