Victoria announces mental health grants
The Victorian Government has delivered $144,000 worth of grants for 48 mental health nurses to undertake further study and training.
State Minister for Mental Health, Mary Wooldridge, said that the nurses will each receive a $3,000 scholarship to assist them in their post-graduate this coming semester.
“These scholarships support nurses in the public mental health system who want to engage in additional study that gives them more specialised knowledge,” Ms Wooldridge said.
“They will help improve patient care by supporting the mental health workforce to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to care for people across all ages and in all clinical settings from hospital bed-based to those in the community.”
The grants for the Postgraduate Mental Health Nurse Scholarships go directly to the recipients to help them with the cost of tuition fees; student loans (HECS-HELP and FEEHELP); books and equipment; travel required to attend lectures and clinical placements; child care; and other related costs.
The recipients in this round are employed at mental health services across the state and are furthering their studies at tertiary institutions including Latrobe University, Monash University, RMIT and The University of Melbourne.
