Manager Banyule Leisure


The Leisure, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is responsible for the provision of high quality leisure and cultural program and services including Leisure Facility Operation and Management, Leisure Planning and Facility Development, Community Facility and Contract Management, Leisure Programs and Activities, Cultural Events and Activities, Management of Community Halls, Art Exhibitions and Programs and Community Liaison and Engagement.

We are seeking a skilled and proactive leader to effectively manage and guide our team of diverse industry professionals in the operation and management of Council’s three ‘in house’ managed leisure facilities; Ivanhoe Aquatic, Olympic Leisure and the Banyule Netball Centre within a strongly competitive business environment. 

As Manager you will: 

  • Manage the unit in an efficient and professional manner and within Council’s established parameters of legal obligation, budgetary requirement, policy and practice.
  • Lead the team and implement change to help grown the business and implement the recommendations identified in the Banyule Leisure Service Review.
  • Determine  operational and service level standards for the Business Unit based on technical and management expertise. 
  • Identify and develop strategies and initiatives to be implemented through creative integrated practices.
  • Develop team member skills including technical, professional and interpersonal and encourage contemporary and relevant subject matter expertise in team. 
  • Be aware of legislative changes and industry developments relevant to Aquatic and Recreation industry and communicate changes effectively to stakeholders.
  • Lead, guide and provide input into strategic planning projects.

Essential Criteria 

  • Degree or Diploma in a related field with extensive experience in aquatic and fitness facility management.
  • Experience in business planning and monitoring processes related to the management of public aquatic and fitness facilities.
  • Well-developed communication, presentation and problem solving skills.
  • Sound knowledge of financial, people management and governance principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of an effective leadership team.
  • Level 2 First Aid Certificate and a Pool Operators Certificate.
  • Current Drivers Licence.
