Workplace Health and Safety Business Partner

 

An opportunity now exists to join the Workplace Health & Safety team as a WHS Business Partner. The successful applicant of this position will build partnerships across departments and provide practical safety advice and guidance.  

The Role 

The role will be assisting departments to develop and implement new practices, policies, and procedures to help them manage safety risks within their departments. 

It will work closely with the Engineering and Civil Services leadership team to develop safe work practices, facilitate continuous improvement and to support a Just Culture. 

This includes: 

  • Working in partnership with the business to identify safety, risk implications, and provide practical solutions. 
  • Working with the broader safety team to ensure consistency of approach, good practice, and assistance. 
  • Conducting thorough workplace assessments, risk assessments, and audits to identify hazards and work with the business to implement effective control measures. 
  • Ensuring the effective investigation of incidents to minimise the impact of injury to workers. 
  • Leading by example by demonstrating positive and proactive safety and risk practices. 
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of HIE’s Safety Management System enabling the joint development of safe working practices and the continuous development of a just safety culture. 
  • Assisting with safety inductions and training services to ensure employees are aware of safety systems, policies, and programs. 
  • Working with other divisions for the effective management of operational activities to ensure legislative compliance and maintain high industry standards.  
  • Maintaining sound knowledge of emerging trends, regulations, and technologies in the field of workplace health and safety. 

About You: 

Your expertise will play a crucial role in enhancing workplace safety, reducing incidents, and promoting employee wellbeing. 

To be successful in the role you will need: 

  • Deep understanding of relevant health and safety regulations and standards, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate across all levels of an organisation. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use coaching skills to influence adoption of good safety and risk practices. 
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out multiple projects and achieve set goals within the required time frame. 
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, adaptability, and great problem-solving skills. 

You will also have: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Health & Safety or related discipline or equivalent demonstrated experience (Essential) 
  • Proven experience (2 years) working in workplace health and safety roles within a heavy industry environment, with a track record of success in developing and implementing safety programs.(Desirable)
