Medical Oncology
Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located at the Department of Medical Oncology at Blacktown Hospital.
The Medical Oncology Department at Blacktown Hospital is a small but dynamic department. It is responsible for the management of all solid tumour types in its catchment.
The Medical Oncology Department at Blacktown has a strong interest in clinical trials and research. It has one of largest Oncology Trial Units in NSW with more than 80 open trials.
Successful applicants will be a medical oncologist with an interest and experience in clinical trials.
The successful applicant will:
(1) Be able to contribute to the medical oversight to the clinical research activities of the medical oncology department under the supervision of clinical trial principal investigators.
(2) Undertake clinical work at subspecialties as directed
Be an active team member of the Department of Medical Oncology within the Sydney West Cancer Network
Essential Requirements for Appointment
- Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the RACP or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
- Sound clinical knowledge in Medical Oncology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position
- Oncology clinical trials experience ideally with prior phase I exposure
Applicants expecting to be awarded fellowship within 3 months are eligible to apply.
This is for the Clinical Year 2025, 12-months from 3 February 2025 to 1 February 2026.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award
Selection Criteria
Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:
- Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the RACP or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)
- Sound clinical knowledge in Medical Oncology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
- Clinical trial experience including understanding of phase I clinical trials
- Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
- Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
- Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
- Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
- Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
