The Role
The Assistant Director Governance, Policy and Partnerships manages a small specialist team tasked with implementation of the Health Research Framework, development and dissemination of strategic health research priorities and the underlying health research governance framework.

The position requires a sound knowledge of health research, research governance processes and policy interpretation and development. The position will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role. They will exercise sound decision-making and judgment to help facilitate good research governance across Joint Health Command through the development of policy and advice.

You will act as a partnership manager and knowledge liaison between policy/program areas and the researchers to support and enable high-quality research that informs health policies and programs. The position will also assist in reviewing Australian Defence Force (ADF) health research priorities and the Directorate’s health research governance framework.

Joint Health Command (JHC) provides a joint health effect to enable Australian Defence Force (ADF) capability and care for our people. Through the delivery of best practice health services, JHC enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment through to transition. As part of Defence People Group, we make a direct contribution to the ADF’s operational capability and provide crucial support to the warfighter.

The Directorate is responsible for strategic Defence health research, including Defence health research governance, support to health research initiatives, and health research dissemination and translation. The team identifies and manages strategic health research priorities as well as engaging with internal and external research partners to undertake health research design, delivery and support to JHC.

Directorate responsibilities include conducting, commissioning and facilitating health research, including quantitative and qualitative research, data management, analysis and reporting.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of research methodologies and procedures to achieve sound data and research governance. You will also have the ability to interpret reports and analyses to problem solve and translate these outcomes to improve Defence policies and programs. You will be consultative and have excellent stakeholder communications, and understand strategic challenges both at an enterprise and Group/Command level.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has demonstrated experience in leading a team managing applied health-related research or research programs;
  • Has experience delivering research in collaboration with research partners across government and academia;
  • Well-honed communication and engagement skills that support you in collaborating with key stakeholders throughout projects, and deliver knowledge that influences change
  • Excellent organisational skills that allow you to manage your team’s competing priorities and strategic directions, to achieve broader objectives.
  • Has excellent writing skills, including the ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly and succinctly.
