Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Neuroscience

  • Full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 12 months
  • Base salary will be in the range $80,448 - $107,104 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A)
  • Based at our St Lucia campus

About This Opportunity

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will join a project investigating interaction between neuronal lipids and proteins during synaptic plasticity, utilising advanced techniques and methodologies. In this roles, you will provide specialist research/technical subject matter expertise in support of high-quality research and translation outcomes at all stages of the project.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Lead Chief Investigator, Professor Frédéric Meunier, and the other members of the research team.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Research: Produce quality research outputs, support applications for research funding, participate in joint research projects, support transfer of knowledge to research end users, develop an emerging research profile, and utilise best practice research methodologies
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, and resolve conflicts.
  • Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate citizenship behaviours in alignment with UQ values, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and begin to develop partnerships.

About You

  • Completion of a PhD in Neuroscience
  • An emerging profile in research in neuronal biology
  • Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Extensive experience in mass spectrometry (lipidomic and proteomics)
  • A good understanding of neurodegenerative pathways
  • A good understanding of analytical chemistry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from a multidisciplinary background

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia and education check.
