Servicing approximately 1500 Aboriginal clients of both Martu and Nyiyaparli decent, Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) provides comprehensive primary health care services to individuals and families within the remote Aboriginal communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji as well as the regional centre of Newman.
The Health Centre Coordinator directly reports to and is accountable to the Clinical Manager - Remote Services and is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of primary health care service delivery at Jigalong Health Centre.
The Jigalong Health Centre Coordinator is required to provide high level culturally competent, clinical leadership and supervision to the Jigalong Health Centre team ensuring planning and supervision of daily duties and coordination of visiting services. This position encompasses both the face-to-face delivery of primary health care services (including participation in the after-hours on call roster) as well as a significant component of administrative duties. The position involves working with a multicultural organisation where the majority of staff, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will require an unrestricted “C” Class Driver’s Licence, and be required to submit a National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months) and Working with Children Check prior to appointment. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with remote Aboriginal communities and make a drastic impact to the health and well-being outcomes of these communities.
PAMS operates four remote sites, three of which have a team of one nurse and a range of ancillary workers. Although the successful candidate will have a substantive location they must be prepared to work across any one of these sites should they be required.
PAMS operates in some of the most remote parts of Australia and staff are required to be proficient at driving a 4WD vehicle and willing to fly in light aircraft.
