The Opportunity 

The Senior Research Scientist (Protein Analytical Science Manager) will:

  • Independently develop and apply state of the art mass spectrometry and HPLC methods to characterise milk proteins such as lactoferrin and beta-casein and their associated peptides, variants and impurities
  • Identification and quantification of intact milk proteins in existing products and products under development
  • Provide technical support and oversight for QC testing at internal and external GMP testing laboratories
  • Collaborate with Noumi partner research organisation and universities, which may involve travelling to and/or working within research partner facilities
  • Drive development of analytical methods and protocols for detection of proteins, sugars and other compounds, which may be achieved with assistance from collaborating research partners
  • Develop, qualify/validate, and transfer fit-for-purpose QC release and stability methods
  • Assist with quality assurance protocols and assessments for specialty protein products
  • Serve as an analytical lead for internal Noumi Limited product analysis
  • Represent the analytical characterisation and milk protein analytics as a subject matter expert
  • Conduct experiments independently and communicate results at team meetings
  • Write experimental reports in line with standard research reporting layouts
  • Contribute to the development of primary research on protein nutritional benefits

What you’ll bring

  • Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology or a related discipline with demonstrable experience in industry or academia.
  • In-depth training in protein sciences and proteomics applications. Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Detailed understanding of established proteomic assays and techniques, from basic bottom-up/top-down proteomics assays
  • Willingness to take project ownership, and initiative in the design and development of novel bioanalytical methods.
  • A working understanding of mass spectrometry fundamentals.
  • Hands-on experience in the effective use of mainstream quantitative proteomics approaches, including both label free and isotopic labelling methods.
  • Working expertise with robust LC/MS instrument tuning, calibration, and maintenance.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills to guide and support team members in addressing their experimental objectives.
  • Solid foundation in the use of proteomic data curation, bioinformatics and search algorithms.
  • Working expertise in absolute quantitative proteomic analysis using LC/MS methods.
  • Ability to work well independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate new techniques and concepts.
