NSW Health Pathology are currently seeking a temporary, part time Epidemiologist to join the Pathogen Genomics team at the Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research (ICPMR) in Westmead Hospital's Microbiology Department.
The successful applicant will be working as a Genomic Epidemiologist in close collaboration with a team comprising a genomic epidemiologist, bioinformaticians, laboratory scientists and clinicians at the ICPMR. The role requires an understanding of pathogen genomics, bioinformatics and epidemiology to effectively understand genomic analyses and results in order to communicate findings with key public health stakeholders. The applicant will work between the NSW Ministry of Health and the Pathogen Genomics Laboratory, participating in both outbreak investigations and routine genomic surveillance activities. Strong data analysis, written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work and contribute as a member of a large, multidisciplinary team. In addition, the role also involves participation in multijurisdictional genomic outbreak analysis teams, as well as participation in national committees and disease control projects.

- Appropriate post graduate qualifications in public health or epidemiology or equivalent and/or relevant experience and record of achievement advising, monitoring and reporting on communicable diseases.
- Extensive experience in public health, including demonstrated expert knowledge of communicable disease surveillance, prevention and control.
- High-level technical expertise in genomics and epidemiological methods and demonstrated experience in the application of these methods to public health practice.
- Highly computer literate including demonstrated knowledge of data collection and analytical software, such as SAS, EPIINFO and Access or similar.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and analyse data, including laboratory notification data, using appropriate statistical methods, and prepare high quality epidemiological reports.
- High level consultation and negotiation skills, in order to effectively manage and influence interactions with key internal and external partners.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience in scientific writing for publications in peer-reviewed journals.
