About the Role
You will work as part of the Biochemistry team to produce accurate, high quality and timely results and reports. You will be responsible for the efficient performance of routine testing and other duties that are assigned to you and will be directly responsible for the quality of the work performed.
Classifications for this position will range from classification range RX1 – RX7 ($62,426 - $89,986 per annum)
Duties include:
- To perform assays that produce accurate, high quality and timely results and reports
- To authorise reports according to laboratory practice
- Perform all quality control testing necessary for each of the assays performed, and review, document and act on the results according to departmental policy
- Perform and document instrument maintenance
- Participate in the on-call and 24 hour 7 day week rotating rosters as required
Your contribution
- Bachelor Degree in Science or Applied Science
- Previous experience in a Diagnostic Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory
- The ability to work as a sole scientist at night or on weekends
- The ability to perform routine tests and maintenance of scientific instruments
- The ability to authorise reports and to communicate by telephone quantitative and qualitative results and provide advice to clients on laboratory procedures.
- The ability to perform method development at the direction of a more senior scientist

About Department
The Clinical Biochemistry Department is a major section of St Vincent’s Pathology, performing and supporting the results of specialist studies and analysis including molecular biology (PCR), protein electrophoresis, immunochemistry, specific IgE assays, chromatography, immunosuppressant monitoring, breath testing, autoimmune serology, blood gases and automated general biochemical analysis. The department is closely integrated with St Vincent’s Pathology Point of Care Testing (POCT) services and is the pathology centre for co-ordination of Clinical Trials and Contract Testing.
