About the organisation

Cape York Partnership (CYP) is a non-profit, for purpose Indigenous organisation empowering the people of Cape York to choose a life they have reason to value. Our partnership consists of 10 entities working on areas of policy, empowerment, education, employment, health, language and culture. We co-design all our initiatives with the people of Cape York so they can lead the changes they need for their communities to prosper.

CYP has been working throughout the region, in partnership with the people of Cape York, for 20 years. Every entity of CYP works towards one agenda – the Pama Futures Agenda. It's a single cohesive reform framework incorporating land rights, empowerment and economic development for the people of Cape York, by the people of Cape York.

About the role

The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and ongoing management of the CYP Work Health & Safety System across the organisation. The Coordinator will work with the various management Teams to identify hazards, assess any risks to health and safety and identify appropriate safety controls that can be put in place by the Management Team.

The WHS Coordinator will be the first point of contact for information, advice and guidance to CYP staff in relation to WHS legislation and compliance and is responsible for providing advice on incident prevention and occupational health and safety to managers and workers.

Essential criteria

  1. Formal qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety.
  2. In-depth practical understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation and applicable Australian and International Standards.
  3. Proficiency in Hazard Management principles.
  4. Skill in identifying safety issues and devising comprehensive corrective plans.
  5. Capable of collaborating with staff for safety performance improvements.
  6. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  7. Competency in incident investigation and corrective recommendations.
  8. Proficient in preparing and delivering WHS training.
