Research Assistant (Level ARA)

About the Role 

The Research Assistant will contribute to grant-funded research under the broad direction of the Head: Acute Leukaemia Laboratory in order to achieve defined objectives and test stated hypotheses. The project involves biology of myeloid malignancies.

The Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB) is an alliance between the University of South Australia and CALHN and is co-located with other cancer-focussed researchers within the purpose-built Bradley Building on City West Campus.  The CCB studies the fundamental causes of cancer in order to find new ways to prevent and treat the disease and is a recognised hub for innovative science leading to breakthrough therapies.  

Core Responsibilities 

• Contribute to planning of research by participating in planning sessions, offering new ideas on research directions and reviewing relevant literature and other sources of information
• Contribute to the execution of research by actively participating in the production and interpretation of data, designing experiments, including appropriate controls, according to the planned aims of the research and maintaining daily comprehensive records of work performed and results of studies
• Contribute to the dissemination of new knowledge by drafting reports, abstracts, scientific papers and other instruments providing accounts of research undertaking and the findings observed
• Contribute to a safe and ethical working environment by complying with human ethics, animal ethics, privacy and other appropriate guidelines

 
Essential Skills and Experience 

• An Honours degree in Science, Genetics, Molecular Cell Biology or related discipline. 
• Experience in a molecular biology laboratory or similar laboratory environment
• Demonstrated participation in relevant areas of research and knowledge of literature involved in, and laboratory procedures relevant to, the research project/s
• Demonstrated competency in recording, analysing, presenting and disseminating research to stakeholders including the preparation of papers for high quality publications or posters for conference presentations
• High-level oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaborate effectively with others in a multi-disciplinary research environment
